• URLs you submit - The long URLs you choose to shorten
• Images you upload or link to - Image files you upload for hosting, or images from URLs you shorten that point to image files — these are downloaded and stored locally
• IP address - Your IP address at the time of URL or image creation
• Country - Derived from your IP address

User Accounts

If you create an account via email or Google sign-in, we additionally collect:

• Email address - Used for login and account recovery
• Name - Your display name, provided by you or your Google account

You can use the service without creating an account. Account data is used solely for authentication and associating your links and images with your account.

How We Use Information

• To provide the URL shortening, image hosting, and QR code generation services
• To prevent abuse and spam
• To maintain service statistics
• To authenticate users and manage accounts

QR Code Generator

QR codes for URLs, WiFi networks, phone numbers, and email addresses are generated entirely in your browser. No QR code data is sent to or stored on our servers. Logo images you upload for QR codes are processed locally and never transmitted.

Link Expiration & Password Protection

If you set an expiry date or password on a link, this information is stored on our servers to enforce the restriction. Passwords are securely hashed and cannot be read by anyone, including us.

Information We Do NOT Collect

• Browsing history
• Cookies for tracking (only functional cookies for session and login)

Browser Extension

The os.md browser extension:

• Only activates when you click on it
• Only accesses the current tab's URL when you choose to shorten it or generate a QR code
• Only accesses images you explicitly choose to upload
• QR codes are generated locally in the extension — no data is sent to any server
• Does not track your browsing activity
• Does not collect any data in the background

Data Retention

Shortened URLs, hosted images, and associated metadata are stored indefinitely to ensure links continue to work. We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
